Keratin is a fibrous structural protein that is a key component of hair, skin, and nails. It is composed of long chains of amino acids, rich in cysteine, which form strong disulfide bonds that give keratin its durability and resilience. In hair, keratin provides strength, elasticity, and protection against physical and environmental damage.
